an autobiographical song about Rob’s and his brother’s relationship with their Dad. It also speaks of how Christ was willing to leave heaven to become the “God-man” to rescue us from the punishment our sins deserve.

my big brother mike and me
found a lot of ways to disagree, but
one thing made us both happy
we couldn’t wait ‘til half-past four when
daddy’d come walkin’ through that door and
he’d say, “hey – who wants to get soaked?!

turn the hose on, get in the pool
i came home early just to be with you and do the things you do.”

he was a six-foot man
in a four-foot pool
one foot deep, four feet wide
daddy and me – side by side – oo – hoo – hoo!

you know God’s a Father, too
and He’s got about a zillion things to do, but
He’s still watchin’ after you!
He is holy, just and true
But we are sinners through and through
so Christ says, “Hey – who wants to get ‘soaked’”?

He says, “turn the hose on, get in the pool
I came from heaven to be with you and do a big rescue

I’ll be your six-foot Man
in your four-foot ‘pool’.
My love’s deep and My love’s wide
you and Me – side by side – oo – hoo – hoo!”

[kids shout: “go on, fella!”] solo section

turn the hose on, get in the pool
He came from heaven to be with you and do a big rescue

He’ll be your Six-Foot Man
in your four-foot pool.
His love’s deep and His love’s wide
you and He – side by side – oo – hoo – hoo!
He’ll be your Six-Foot Man
in your four-foot pool.
His love’s deep and His love’s wide
you and He – side by side – oo – hoo – hoo!

"Six-Foot Man (in a Four-Foot Pool)" is an autobiographical song about Rob’s and his brother’s relationship with their Dad. It tells of how their Dad would come home from work and join them in their boyhood games [and their plastic inflatable swimming pool]. It’s good to think of God this way – that he wants us to enjoy a close relationship with him, and that Christ was willing to leave heaven to become the “God-man” to rescue us from the punishment our sins deserve.

MUSICAL STYLE/SOUND: Country/pop – lots of slide guitar, acoustic guitar, and vocal harmonies. A very big sing-along chorus.

IF YOU’RE TEACHING:
- Christ coming to earth to rescue us
- The answer to the sin problem
- Sacrifice
- The power of effective/involved parenting

KEY LYRIC: “I came from heaven to be with you and do a big rescue…”

LITTLE KNOWN FACTS: Rob’s Dad plays the harmonica solo in the middle section, and his “big brother Mike” does most of the background vocals on the song.
